"A 1995 graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Dr. Buraks has served on the board of the Philadelphia County Optometric Society (PCOS) since 1996, including president in 2002 and 2003.  She was awarded PCOS's Young Optometrist of the Year Award in 2001, 2002, and 2004.  She was awarded Pennsylvania's Young optometrist of the Year Award in 2004.  During her tenure on the PCOS board, Dr. Buraks worked on the Education Committee to organize a variety of continuing education seminars, served on the Legislative Committee where she is a Keyperson, served on the Intraprofessional Committee which was responsible for awarding optometric honors, and served on the Public Information/Community Relations Committee where she organized public vision screenings and promoted eye awareness." She is a mother of three girls and spends a majority of her time raising them.  In her community, Dr. Buraks is a member of FEAST which is a local division of the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN).   Two of her daughters suffer from food allergies so this is an important area of research for her.  She is a member of St. Katherine of Sienna Church.
